Meta Launches Open-Source Version: NotebookLlama, Rivals Google’s Popular NotebookLM
Meta launches NotebookLlama, an open-source podcast model rivaling Google’s NotebookLM. Turn PDFs into podcasts effortlessly with AI.
Meta: Open-source Podcast Model NotebookLlama is Here
Some time ago, Google launched the podcast model NotebookLM, and AI expert Andrej Karpathy gave it high praise.
“It’s possible that the podcast generation feature in NotebookLM is touching a new and highly appealing form of large language model (LLM) product. This reminds me of ChatGPT. Maybe I’m overreacting, but NotebookLM is incredibly powerful and worth trying.”
Why is Karpathy so optimistic about this podcast format?
Because he believes this format solves two major “user experience obstacles” of LLMs:
1. Conversations are too hard! Many people don’t know what to ask an AI. With podcasts, the AI handles even the questions, so users can simply sit back and enjoy! 😎
2. Reading is exhausting! Compared to reading lengthy texts, listening to podcasts is much more relaxing.
Karpathy thinks the podcast generation feature of NotebookLM could indicate the future direction of UI/UX development in the AIGC space!
The coolest feature of NotebookLM:
It automatically generates a two-person podcast! You just need to upload any content, and NotebookLM will automatically create a dialogue between two AI-generated participants!
“Podcast-ize” Everything! Karpathy tested it using his article “Learning Bitcoin from Scratch” and some C code from `train_gpt2.c`. The results were amazing! (Though he wasn’t entirely satisfied with the conversation structure, key points, and some terminology, he saw enormous potential, and it was very fun.)
