Musk Pays a Premium for GB200 GPUs: $7.2 Billion Order
Musk pre-orders $1.08 billion worth of NVIDIA’s GB200 GPUs, accelerating xAI’s AI development and competing with OpenAI. Will Musk's xAI surpass OpenAI?
Crazy! Musk is paying extra to cut the line for GPUs—accelerating xAI's product development.
NVIDIA's GB200 chip, which won’t be delivered until January next year, has been pre-ordered by Musk for a whopping $1.08 billion.
And judging by Musk's attitude, he’s determined to secure it, even if it means paying a premium.
While NVIDIA hasn't directly addressed the rumors, Musk's liking of related tweets is basically a stamp of approval.
The GB200’s performance is around 5 times that of the H100 GPU, with each chip (CPU+GPU) priced at $70,000.
My rough estimate is that Musk is aiming for around 100,000 GPUs.
Musk seems set on surpassing OpenAI~
