Major leadership changes at OpenAI: Co-founder John Schulman resigns, President Greg Brockman on long-term leave, and VP Peter Deng departs. Leadership instability continues.
Just now, major changes have shaken OpenAI’s leadership:
Co-founder John Schulman resigned, co-founder & President Greg Brockman went on long-term leave, and VP of Product Peter Deng has also reportedly left.
John Schulman, known as the "architect of ChatGPT," led OpenAI’s reinforcement learning team for many years. After Ilya Sutskever left, he temporarily took over the super alignment team. Now, Schulman has made the "difficult decision" to join Anthropic, also known as the Claude team.
At the same time, OpenAI President Greg Brockman announced he would take a long vacation until the end of the year. He will miss OpenAI's planned Developer Day events starting October 1.
