Stripe: AI Can Now Manage Its Own Credit Card – Earn and Spend Independently
Stripe’s new SDK enables AI agents to handle payments with one-time virtual cards, automate transactions, and complete tasks like booking flights seamlessly.
Now, can we give AI a bank card so it can complete payments for us?!
Here’s what’s happening.
The payment company Stripe (the same provider behind ChatGPT’s payment system) has launched an interface specifically designed for AI agents, allowing them to complete financial payments using one-time virtual cards.
The announcement quickly garnered attention from nearly a million online users and sparked heated discussions in developer communities.
According to official documentation, the SDK offers the following features:
Enables LLMs to call APIs for payments, billing, card issuing, and more.
Supports integration with platforms like Vercel, LangChainAI, and CrewAIInc.
Allows the use of any model through functions, with billing based on tokens.
This means that in the future, when we ask our “AI assistant” to book a flight, it can actually handle the entire process, from selection to payment.
Some exclaimed, “This is so cool! I thought we’d have to wait for agents to mature further before this became possible.”
And with previous examples of people “tipping” AI, we might soon see AI earning and spending money on its own.
