Windows Users Can Now Access Desktop ChatGPT and Preview the o1 Model
OpenAI releases Windows ChatGPT app! Now available to Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu users, offering file uploads, o1 model preview, and DALL-E 3 support.
In June of this year, OpenAI announced the release of a macOS app, allowing Mac users to install the desktop version of ChatGPT for free.
This move sparked envy among Windows users, who were eagerly asking when they would have access to a Windows version of ChatGPT.
Nearly four months later, OpenAI has finally released a ChatGPT application for Windows.
However, it is currently only available to ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu users, and is an early version.
To use it, users need to first download it from the Windows Store. Once installed, ChatGPT can be quickly summoned by pressing the "Alt + Space" shortcut to answer questions.
At present, the Windows version of ChatGPT can run on most Windows 10 and later systems.
Compared to other clients, it still has some limitations: it does not support voice, including advanced voice mode, and integration with the GPT Store is not functional.
However, the Windows version of ChatGPT allows users to preview the OpenAI o1 model, which has reasoning capabilities.
Additionally, users can upload files and photos to ChatGPT, have it summarize documents, and create images using OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 image generator.
Like the macOS ChatGPT app, the Windows version allows users to minimize it into a small "companion" window alongside other applications while working.
